“For over 25 years, I have focused on helping people of all ages resolve their knee and shoulder problems. My goal has always been to treat our patients with respect and compassion while getting them back to their active lifestyle with better function. While I treat all types of orthopedic injuries and conditions, I am especially committed to treating injuries of the knee and shoulder.
“In order to provide our patients with the latest in knee and shoulder care, it is important for me to keep on the leading edge of research and development. I continuously participate in research studies that seek to improve treatment options and outcomes for all patients. But while research is critical, I will never lose focus on the individuals we care for each day.
“As a high school and collegiate athlete, I know firsthand how painful and frustrating injuries can be. I also understand how motivated you are to get your problem fixed and get back in the game. It has been a privilege to serve as team physician for a number of sports teams from the high school level through the professional level.

Dr. Janssen has over 25 years of experience in orthopedics and sports medicine with an emphasis on the diagnosis and treatment of knee and shoulder injuries. He is a founding partner of SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery & Spine Center.
Always on the leading edge of orthopedic care, Dr. Janssen has participated in numerous research studies of the knee and shoulder and published several articles on ACL reconstruction techniques. In addition, he has conducting post-market research on articular cartilage repair. He’s held a variety of professional appointments and currently serves as team physician for several area high schools, local colleges and universities.
As an orthopedic surgeon, a father, an athlete and a patient, Dr. Janssen has a unique perspective that makes him a true advocate for his patients. Dr. Janssen lives with his family in Huntsville. The Janssens are active in their church and are avid University of Alabama supporters, where three of the seven Janssen children are currently studying, two in medical school.
